Pantone Color Of the Year: 2016 x2

Pantone, the color authority, made history today by choosing TWO shades for their 2016 color of the year. Keep reading to find out more about these colors, what they mean, and why I'm tickled by their selection.

They describe Rose Quartz as a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure and Serenity as weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.

A quote from Pantone:

"As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the color tranquil blue, reflecting connections and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace."

This color combo has always been a favorite of mine because I'm partial to pastels. They are what I like to call friendly colors and, while vivid pops of color will always have a place in my heart, it's so much fun to work with them.

This color combination has been used in the last year by incredible brands like Chanel, Prada, and Roberto Cavalli.

Why am I excited about these colors? They're gorgeous, for one thing. They also work so well together and they're feminine without screaming it. Both men and women can wear these colors without confusing gender identity (a hot topic at the moment) and when paired with other colors they can evoke completely different emotions and feelings.

Basically, they're rad.
